PRIORITIES
An Independent and Impartial Court System

The independence of the judiciary is vital to our system of government. The appearance of partiality and partisanship undermines the very integrity of the court system. As a respected and experienced judicial officer, Magistrate Briles is committed to ensuring fair trials and blind justice in accordance with the law without regard to partisanship or special interests.

Transparency and Equal Opportunity

Magistrate Briles understands the importance of transparency in carrying out the administrative and judicial duties of Circuit Court Judge and will work to restore public confidence in the judicial system. She also pledges to implement hiring practices recommended by the Evansville Bar Association's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee to ensure equal opportunities for all.

Dignity and Respect in the Courtroom

Magistrate Briles treats everyone who appears before her in court with dignity and respect. She believes treating others with patience, grace, and compassion helps parties feel more comfortable with the court process. This mutual respect allows Magistrate Briles to gain a deeper understanding of underlying issues and ultimately results in more informed and comprehensive rulings.

Efficient Resolution of Disputes

One of the most frequent criticisms of the judicial system is the length of time a case takes to proceed from initial filing to final resolution. Magistrate Briles will prioritize the importance of timely resolution of cases by implementing case management orders, encouraging alternative dispute resolution, and managing the court's calendar efficiently.

Continued Improvement Through Innovation

As the former C0-Chair of the Evansville Bar Association's Access to Justice Committee and a multi-term member of the Indiana Innovation Initiative, Magistrate Briles has been a leader in bringing innovative improvements to the court system. Magistrate Briles is committed to making the court system easier to navigate.

Creation of a Designated Domestic Abuse Court

Magistrate Briles has had extensive training regarding domestic abuse cases. She wants to create a designated domestic abuse court where high lethality crimes such as domestic battery, strangulation, stalking, and invasion of privacy are handled in accordance with best practices and evidence-based principles.
